Crime Branch Apprehends Suspect in Cab Driver Murder Case After Months on the Run

Nagpur, India: The Crime Branch Unit-5 arrested a 27-year-old suspect, Shaikh Aslam Shaikh Maqsood, in connection with the brutal murder of cab driver Yash Vishnu Gonekar. After a tip-off, The arrest occurred near Fardeen Celebration Hall in Yashodhara Nagar.
Yash Gonekar, who had a criminal record with around 10 cases, including attempted murder, assault, and theft, was murdered on May 17. The killing stemmed from an ongoing rivalry between Gonekar and two other accused, Shaikh Arbaz Shaikh Iqbal (23) and Aslam alias Guddu Maqsood Ansari (21), both from Kapil Nagar. The conflict reportedly escalated after a violent altercation between Yash and Arbaz’s younger brother.
On the night of the murder, Yash was intercepted near a celebration hall in Majri while returning home. The accused stabbed him multiple times with sharp weapons before fleeing. A passer-by found Yash in critical condition and alerted the police. He was rushed to Mayo Hospital and later transferred to Government Medical College & Hospital, where he died after a few hours of treatment.
While Arbaz was arrested soon after the incident, Shaikh Aslam had been evading the police until his capture on Wednesday. He has been handed over to the Yashodhara Nagar Police for further investigation.
