Nagpur, India: The administrative building of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (Mayo), which began construction five years ago, has now been completed. In the initial phase, the construction department will hand over the first three floors to Mayo, allowing operations for nearly eight departments, including the administrator’s office, to commence from this new facility next week.

Spanning 38.26 acres, Mayo features eight buildings that are over a hundred years old. The college’s development has been supported by the court’s involvement. In recent years, several facilities, including a multipurpose building, a new emergency department, and hostels for boys and girls, as well as a surgical complex, have been built. For five years, the Mayo administration has been advocating for an administrative building. Construction on this building began in 2019 with a budget of ₹49 crores, but work was halted for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Once Dr. Ravi Chavan took on the role of dean, he expedited the construction work. Last week, Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar visited the administrative building and instructed the construction department to transfer the first three floors to Mayo by October 20. As a result, efforts to equip the building with essential facilities have been accelerated.
