Vidarbha, Wani: A 15-year-old girl who was married at the age of 13 to a 25-year-old man recently gave birth at a rural hospital in Wani. The police have arrested her husband, who is from Rajur (Co) in Wani taluka, in the child marriage case.

The victim, originally from Uttar Pradesh, had been living with her parents, who are laborers, in Rajur (Co). The accused, aged 25, works in Rajur. On June 23, 2023, when the victim was just 13 years old, she was taken to Uttar Pradesh and married to the accused.

The victim’s parents took the initiative to arrange the marriage. After the marriage, the husband took his wife from Uttar Pradesh and brought her to Rajur. The accused was aware that the victim was a minor.

However, he still engaged in physical relations with the victim. As a result, she became pregnant. On February 22, the victim began experiencing labor pains and was admitted to the Rural Hospital in Wani, where she gave birth to a baby.

The doctor and nurse became worried about the girl’s age. After asking her some questions, they found out she had been married as a child. They informed police about this, and after investigating, they discovered the truth.

The police have registered a case against the accused husband under Section 376(2)(N) of the IPC, Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act, and Sections 9 and 11 of the Prevention of Child Marriage Act. The accused was arrested, registered in court, and remanded to judicial custody.

The parents of the victim girl, who are also involved in the incident, have not been arrested so far. The investigation into the case is being carried out by PSI Nilesh Apsunde.
