After recently causing a stir with comments on Lord Ram and non-vegetarianism, NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad has once again ignited controversy, this time focusing on the necessity for reservations in the judiciary.

Speaking at a public event in Nagpur on Tuesday, Awhad claimed that certain judicial decisions "reek of casteism." Twenty-four hours later, he took to Twitter, clarifying that his statement should be considered within the context of his nearly one-hour speech, urging against isolating it.

Expressing regret, Awhad stated, "Even today, I feel... Babasaheb Ambedkar should have implemented reservations in the judicial system. Denying reservations in the judiciary has been an injustice to 80 percent of society... Some judicial decisions immediately exude casteism, which is unexpected from the judiciary," during an address at the Samata Parishad event organized by the NCP in Nagpur.

He emphasized the expectation of unbiased decisions outside the caste system according to the Constitution and questioned whether this expectation is met. Awhad also remarked, "Bahujan people are starting to appear in the Bar Council now. Their generations were not educated... They used to go to bars," as reported by the media.

Sharing a video clip of the event on social media, Awhad reiterated, "I feel Babasaheb (Ambedkar) should have implemented reservations in the judiciary as well."

He posted on X that the media was taking parts of his speech out of context for TRPs.

Prior to this, Awhad stirred controversy by referring to Lord Rama as a meat eater, leading to multiple FIRs against him for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. Various police stations have booked Awhad under section 295A of the Indian Penal Code based on complaints filed by the public.
