In light of the Asian Football Confederation's (AFC) decision that the Kolkata giants had withdrawn from Asian Champions League 2 due to security concerns, Mohun Bagan Super Giants are seeking legal advice.
They are expected to file an appeal with the continental body. "We are consulting lawyers on this one-sided decision," a Mohun Bagan official stated. The official asked to remain anonymous due to the delicate nature of the matter.
Mohun Bagan has asked for the match to be postponed or transferred to a neutral location after 35 players filed a signed undertaking stating that they would not be traveling due to the growing unrest in West Asia.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) confirmed on its website on Monday that Mohun Bagan Super Giant of India is deemed to have withdrawn from the ACL 2 competition due to the team's failure to report to Tabriz for their match against Tractor FC on October 2, 2024, as per Article 5.2 of the AFC Champions League 2 2024/25 Competition Regulations.
Mohun Bagan defeated Mohammedan Sporting 3-0 in the Indian Super League on Saturday after missing the Asian match. With seven points from four games, they hold the fourth position in the rankings heading into the international break.
