Nagpur, India: Many of the electric vehicle (EV) charging booths at Nagpur Metro stations are not working, leaving EV users frustrated. Despite installing 45 charging booths at 25 metro stations, most are unusable due to technical issues and poor accessibility.

While Maha Metro claims that 18 metro stations have functional charging points, many users find the booths either broken or difficult to use. The project, a collaboration with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), is struggling with maintenance and upkeep. Some booths will be relocated to better spots, officials say.

Even at stations where booths work, few people use them. "Charging at home is easier," said EV owner Rahul Mohod. Security is another concern. Commuter Rehman shared how his charger was swapped with another while his vehicle was left unattended.

Lack of space is also a problem. At Ujjwal Nagar Metro Station, EV user Anjusha finds vehicles parked in front of charging points, blocking access. "There’s no space to charge my two-wheeler," she said.

With more EVs on the road, better charging infrastructure is needed. But unless Maha Metro fixes technical issues, improves security, and enforces parking rules, these charging booths may go to waste.
