Nagpur, India- The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has started its pre-monsoon checkup to avoid power disruptions. This schedule was delayed because of unexpected rainfall, which caused significant damage to the power infrastructure. The current focus is on emergency repairs to address this damage.
Efforts are being concentrated in Nagpur and Wardha districts to carry out necessary repairs and reduce the chances of power outages. Measures include trimming tree branches near power lines to prevent interruptions. Despite extremely high temperatures, up to 45 degrees Celsius in Vidarbha, including Nagpur, and occasional rain and lightning, MSEDCL workers are dedicated to maintenance tasks.
The susceptibility of MSEDCL’s infrastructure to climate change highlights the importance of taking preventive actions. Overhanging tree branches is a major risk, so MSEDCL is directing efforts to trim them and avoid potential damage. Working with local authorities, they are inspecting and removing obstructions like kites, flags, and plastic debris from power lines. Essential maintenance tasks include checking oil levels in heaters, replacing worn-out silica gel in breathers, and reinforcing grounding systems in substations and distribution boxes.
Through these pre-monsoon assessments and maintenance tasks, MSEDCL aims to improve the reliability of its power distribution network, ensuring uninterrupted service for consumers despite challenging weather conditions.
MSEDCL officials understand the difficulties faced by consumers due to hot weather and power cuts. They are working hard to ensure a smooth and safe power supply and ask for patience and cooperation from consumers during this period.
