The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has taken the decision to suspend the Ambazari Garden project following allegations of the demolition of the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Smruti Sanskrutik Bhavan. Demonstrations by various organizations had raised concerns over the actions of the contractor agency involved in the project.
The MTDC, based on the inquiry report submitted by a committee constituted by the Divisional Commissioner, has ordered the immediate suspension of the Ambazari Garden project. The committee, led by the Deputy Commissioner of General Administration, conducted a thorough scrutiny of relevant documents before presenting an objective report.
In light of the inquiry committee's findings, the MTDC has directed the contractor agency, M/s Garuda Amusement Park (Nagpur) Pvt Ltd, to halt all project-related activities. The firm had been responsible for the development and operation of Ambazari Garden on a design-build-finance-operate-transfer basis.
Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) welcomed the MTDC's decision to suspend the project. Adv Dharmapal Meshram, State Vice-President of the BJP, had previously raised concerns about the demolition and brought the matter to the attention of the state government, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The BJP held a meeting to express support for the state government's actions, passing a resolution congratulating them on their decision.
