Cooperation Needed for Fever Survey by Asha Workers

Nagpur, India- With the rainy season boosting mosquito numbers, deadly diseases like dengue and chikungunya are on the rise. To combat this, Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, Commissioner of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), has called on citizens to observe one "Dry Day" each week. This means eliminating any standing water around homes to prevent mosquito breeding.

The NMC's health department is actively working to stop the spread of these diseases. Asha workers are conducting door-to-door surveys to check for fever cases. Dr. Chaudhary has asked residents to cooperate and provide accurate information.

So far, Asha workers have surveyed 162,895 homes across different zones. They check for items that can hold water, like coolers, tyres, and pots, which are prime breeding spots for mosquitoes. By August 7, they found dengue larvae in 4,369 containers, including 6,278 coolers, 1,112 tyres, 5,290 pots, 2,889 drums, 1,240 earthen pots, 894 bird and animal dishes, and 1,745 other containers. These areas were treated with anti-larval chemicals.

Citizens should ensure no water collects in or around their homes. Water in coolers and pots should be changed daily. Dr Chaudhary also advised that anyone with a fever should seek immediate medical help.

This initiative, guided by Deputy Commissioner Dr Ranjana Lade, has seen significant contributions from the IT department team, including Kamlesh Jhanzad, Swapnil Lokhande, Pranay Jaiswal, Ravindra Kidarle, and Siddharth Zodape.

The NMC is committed to making sure no eligible woman misses out on the benefits of the scheme. Applications can be submitted online or at zonal and ward offices, where staff are available to help. If any application is incomplete or has errors, it can be resubmitted with the correct documents. The deadline for applications is August 31, 2024, and Dr. Chaudhary encourages all eligible women to apply.
