Crime Branch Unit 2 Nabs Two for Illegal Sale of Banned Scented Tobacco in Nagpur

Nagpur, India: In a major crackdown on the illegal sale of banned products, Crime Branch Unit 2 officials arrested two men on October 21, 2024, for selling government-prohibited scented tobacco in the Sitabuldi area. The arrests were made around 3:05 PM after the police received a tip-off about the sale of the harmful products near the Railway Station Accelerator Gate.

The accused, Mohammad Waseem Mohammad Shakeel (39), a resident of Laskharibag, and Shubham Gopi Pasfule (29), a resident of Gaddigodam, were caught red-handed. Upon searching them, the police seized scented tobacco and gutka, both of which are banned due to their hazardous effects on human health. The total value of the confiscated material was estimated at ₹5,882.

A case has been registered against the accused under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyaa Sahita (BNS), including sections 123, 274, 275, and 223. The accused and the seized materials were handed over to the Sitabuldi police station for further investigation.

The operation was successfully conducted under the leadership of Police Commissioner Shri Ravindra Kumar Singhal, Joint Commissioner Shri Nisar Tamboli, Additional Commissioner of Crime Shri Sanjay Patil, and Deputy Commissioner of Detection Shri Rahul Maknikar. The team was led by Senior PI Shubhangi Deshmukh, along with API Gajanan Chamhare, PSI Mahendra Sadmake, and other officers.
