In a remarkable display of vigilance and diligence, the teams of Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) and Air Customs Unit (ACU) of Nagpur Customs thwarted a major attempt of foreign gold smuggling at Nagpur International Airport. The operation, conducted on Friday, successfully intercepted a passenger who had ingeniously concealed gold within his clothing to evade detection.

The passenger, identified as Mohammed Mogar Abbas, had concealed gold inside his trousers and vest, cleverly stitching it to avoid suspicion. This unique smuggling method was promptly noticed by the vigilant officers, leading to the swift initiation of action to apprehend the perpetrator.

Under the astute guidance and supervision of Sanjay Kumar, Commissioner of Customs, Nagpur, and Peeyoush Bhati, Additional Commissioner of Customs, Nagpur, the operation unfolded seamlessly. A total of 822.55 grams of 24k gold, valued at Rs 50,75,133, along with other contraband items, including five iPhone 15 Pro Max devices valued at Rs 5,92,612, seven Apple smartwatches valued at Rs 3,11,422, and eight kilograms of saffron valued at Rs 17,49,280, were seized from the perpetrator.

The interception was made possible through meticulous intelligence gathering and coordinated efforts of the customs officials. The passenger, Mohammed Mogar Abbas, had arrived from Sharjah via Air Arabia Flight no G9-415, and was intercepted upon his arrival at Nagpur International Airport.

The dedicated team of Nagpur Customs, led by Assistant Commissioner Arfum Tadvi and supported by Assistant Commissioner V Suresh Babu, Assistant Commissioner Charanjit Singh, Superintendent of Customs Shalik Nimje, Ram Kapse, Anju Khobragade, and other customs officials, played a pivotal role in the successful operation.

Following his apprehension, the passenger, Mohammed Mogar Abbas, was arrested, and investigations are currently underway to unravel further details surrounding the smuggling attempt.
