Nagpur, India: A young woman, Priyusha, took her own life after her boyfriend, Sagar Raju Karade, refused to marry her in New Kamptee. Police have arrested Sagar, a 30-year-old resident of Shivnagar, Tarasa Road, Kanhan, on charges of abetment to suicide. The case was filed following a complaint by Priyusha’s father, Rangalal Sahadev Yelker, a 54-year-old resident of Devnagar, Kamthee.

Priyusha and Sagar had been in a romantic relationship since 2014 when they both attended Porwal College. Sagar had promised Priyusha that he would marry her, meeting regularly and talking on the phone. Priyusha told her mother and sister about the relationship, and Sagar had discussed marriage with them, assuring them that he would soon introduce them to his family.

On December 29, Priyusha and Sagar had a phone conversation during which Sagar suddenly backed out of his marriage promise, claiming family opposition. This led to a heated argument between the two. Priyusha became extremely distressed by Sagar's refusal.

That afternoon, Priyusha went to her room while her parents and brother, Ankit, were away. Upon returning home at 5:30 PM, Ankit was informed by his cousin, Darshan, that Priyusha was in her room. After calling her without receiving a response, Ankit knocked on the door but got no answer. When he looked inside, he found Priyusha hanging from a noose. In shock, Ankit broke the door and alerted the family.

The police investigation revealed that Priyusha and Sagar had spoken 43 times on the phone that day, and during their conversations, Sagar had repeatedly refused to marry her.

Based on Rangalal’s complaint, the police have arrested Sagar Karade for abetment to suicide. Investigation is underway.
