The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is gearing up to introduce two cutting-edge E-Libraries in the city. These libraries will be located in the Thakkar-gram area of Panchpaoli and on the premises of Shahid Shankar Mahale School (SSMS) at Zenda Square, Mahal. The construction of these libraries, following a Ground+2 model, is estimated to cost ₹25.60 crore, covering taxes, royalties, and quality testing charges.
The groundwork for this ambitious project is expected to commence by mid-March, with a projected completion within a year, along with a 60-month defect liability period. The Thakkargram E-library design incorporates parking for two and four-wheelers on the ground floor, with capacities of 68 and 8, respectively. The first floor will house separate E-labs for boys, girls, and common students, accommodating a total of 73 students. Additionally, reading rooms for specially-abled and common students with a capacity of 44, along with a sit-out area and a standard library, will also be featured on this floor.
The second floor of the complex will focus on sociocultural aspects, featuring an auditorium with seating for 78 people. Facilities such as a modified kitchen, canteen area, open-air seating, and a conference room with a capacity of 24 will also be constructed. All floors will include washrooms for boys and girls, equipped with special facilities for specially-abled students.
The E-library at SSMS will mirror the design and features of the Thakkargram E-library, differing only in its capacity to accommodate students and citizens. The SSMS building will have a capacity of 64 and will be able to accommodate 18 specially-abled individuals.
NMC Administrator Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari highlighted the pivotal role these libraries will play in fostering learning opportunities for students across communities and economic sections. Additionally, plans are underway to implement financial concessions for students from financially and socially weaker sections to ensure broader access to the library's benefits.
