Nagpur Police Arrest Man for Illegal Cattle Transport Near Panjeri Toll Plaza
16 Cattle Rescued from Inhumane Conditions, Accused Booked Under Animal Protection Laws

Nagpur, India: Nagpur police have arrested a man for illegally transporting 16 cattle in poor conditions for slaughter. The accused, Sheikh Mehmood Sheikh Mustaq (50), lives in Koyla Taal, Kamptee. He was caught carrying the animals in a truck (MH 40 CT 4722) without proper documents.
The incident happened around 12:05 AM on Wednesday near Panjeri Toll Plaza. Ram Krishnarao Nandanwar (40), an animal welfare officer, noticed the suspicious truck and stopped it. He found the cattle packed tightly inside without food or water. He immediately informed Beltarodi Police.
Police checked the truck with panch witnesses and confirmed the illegal transport. They seized the truck and moved the 16 cattle, worth ₹23.2 lakh, to a gaushala. The accused has been charged under the Maharashtra Animal Protection Act, 1976 (Amendment 1995), Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
Police have warned that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in illegal cattle transport and slaughter. They also urged people to report such activities immediately.
