Nagpur Police Arrest Two for Gambling, Seize Cash and Mobile Phones

Nagpur police raided an illegal betting operation in Khamla, arresting two individuals and seizing Rs 31,065 in cash. A case has been registered under the Maharashtra Gambling Act, and further investigation is underway.

Nagpur, India: In a major crackdown on illegal gambling, the Zone 1 Police Team, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Lohit Matani, raided a betting operation at Khamla Mutton Market and arrested two individuals. The raid took place on 1st February 2025, around 7 PM, under the jurisdiction of Sonegaon Police Station.  

Acting on reliable information, the police team swiftly reached the location and found Golu alias Mamtesh Ramratan Shambharkar, 19, and Krish Girish Nighote, 19, both residents of Old Khamla, behind Somalwar School, Nagpur, placing and accepting bets through mobile phones for personal profit. The officers seized two mobile phones and Rs 16,065 in cash, with the total confiscated amount reaching Rs 31,065.  

Following the raid, the accused were booked under Section 12(A) of the Maharashtra Gambling Act at Sonegaon Police Station. The operation was successfully executed under the guidance of DCP Lohit Matani and ACP Ashok Shelke, with key contributions from PSI Nitin Magar, PSI Zhamre, PSI Nikardkar, and constables Gajanan Pawar, Swapnil Karande, Manohar Rathod, and Dingabar Pathade. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover further links to the illegal betting network.
