Nagpur Police Commissioner inaugurates "Cyber Club" to boost cyber awareness among students, aiming to prevent and address cybercrime.

Nagpur, India: Police Commissioner of Nagpur City, Dr. Ravindrakumar Singal, inaugurated the "Cyber Club" on Thursday. This initiative aims to raise cyber awareness and provide solutions to cyber-related issues among students of colleges and schools across Nagpur. Spreading awareness to the locals and senior citizens to avoid fraud activities while making an online transaction, and spam messages alerts.
The inauguration ceremony was held at Ramdeobaba College of Engineering, Gittikhadan, at 11:30 AM. Dr Singal briefed the Cyber Club to address the growing need for cyber vigilance among the youth. The club's primary objectives include:
- Establish cyber clubs in every school and college in Nagpur.
- Forming committees within these clubs consisting of faculty members and students.
- Ensuring the mandatory inclusion of female students allows affected women/girls to discuss their issues.
- Creating a WhatsApp group for the Cyber Club and promoting its activities among all students.
- Encouraging students to contact club members if they experience any cybercrime.
- Facilitating contact between victims and police officers through club members.
- Appointing cyber officers at each police station to handle cyber complaints and act as liaison officers for the clubs.
- Filing complaints on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and providing online copies to victims.
- Referring complaints to the Cyber Police Station based on their nature.
- Assisting victims in filing online complaints within 30 minutes of contact.
- Guiding students in preventing cyber fraud through awareness programs.
Dr. Singhal explained the club’s purpose and the importance of preventing cybercrimes. He emphasized how the Cyber Club would play a crucial role in helping students avoid falling victim to cyber fraud and the measures to take if they encounter a situation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr Nimit Goyal discussed how cyber-criminals operate, and their methods taught preventive measures as well. He provided valuable insights into safeguarding against cybercrimes and the importance of quick response and reporting.
The Cyber Club at Ramdeobaba College of Engineering has 40 members, who were briefed on their responsibilities. As youth plays a pivotal role in spreading awareness.
The event was coordinated by student hosts Vedant Naidu and Varadhya Kulkarni, with a vote of thanks by Professor Dr. Rakesh Kadu. The inauguration saw significant attendance from Cyber Police Station officers, faculty members, and students, marking a significant step towards enhancing cyber safety in Nagpur.
This initiative by the Nagpur Police Commissioner’s office highlights the proactive measures being taken to protect students from the ever-evolving threats in the digital world.
