Nagpur, India: The executive engineers of the Public Works Department (PWD) have been instructed during a high-level committee meeting to ensure that the other side of the new bridge near Ambazari Lake is opened for traffic by December. This directive was disclosed by the committee's chairperson, Divisional Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari, in an affidavit submitted to the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court.

The old bridge on the road near Ambazari Lake was narrow and contributed to the severe floods in September last year. Consequently, it was demolished and replaced with a new bridge. While one side of the new bridge was opened to traffic on October 11, work on the other side is still ongoing.

The Public Works Department (PWD) has been directed to complete the remaining tasks promptly. During a high-level committee meeting held on October 28, several other projects were also reviewed. The Chief Engineer of the Irrigation Department reported that strengthening the Ambazari Lake security wall is expected to be completed by December. However, efforts to construct water release gates have been delayed, as tender notices were issued twice but received no responses.

Alternative solutions are being explored to address this issue, according to the official. Additionally, the Maha Metro director stated that the project to widen the Nag River bed by 18 meters near the Krazy Castle area is scheduled for completion by April 2025.

In September last year, heavy rains caused Ambazari Lake to overflow, flooding several settlements and causing significant damage. In response, Ramgopal Bachuka and other affected citizens filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court. The PIL called for an investigation into unauthorized constructions around Ambazari Lake and the Nag River, as well as an assessment of the lake's safety.
