Nagput, India - Nagpur recorded its hottest day of the season on Monday, with temperatures soaring to 45.6°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This surpasses the previous high of 43°C, recorded twice this season.
In Bramhapuri, temperatures hit a blistering 47.1°C, the highest in Maharashtra on Monday. This marks the second highest temperature recorded in Bramhapuri in recent decades, following the 47.7°C recorded on May 27, 1983.
The extreme heat kept most residents indoors, leaving the streets deserted until 5 PM. The combination of high temperatures and hot winds made the heat even more unbearable, lasting into the late evening.
The IMD has advised people to stay indoors during the day and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, buttermilk, or juices to avoid heatstroke. Unfortunately, there's no immediate relief in sight, with temperatures expected to rise further throughout the week, both during the day and at night.
Other cities in the region also faced extreme heat on Monday. Wardha and Amravati recorded temperatures above 45°C, while Bhandara (44.5°C), Chandrapur (44.8°C), Gadchiroli (44°C), and Gondia (44.5°C) also saw temperatures significantly above normal. Akola, typically the hottest district in Vidarbha this summer, recorded 42.2°C, and Yavatmal reached 42.5°C. Buldhana was the only place in Vidarbha with temperatures below 40°C on Monday.
