Nagpur Traffic Police Enforce Record Penalties in Signal Jumping Crackdown
Nagpur Police launched a major crackdown on traffic violations, issuing 6,988 fines and collecting ₹71.22 lakh in a single day as part of a citywide campaign.

Nagpur, India: On October 17, 2024, Nagpur City witnessed its largest single-day enforcement against signal jumping. The Nagpur City Police Commissionerate conducted a special campaign across all traffic divisions, targeting motorists who violated traffic signals. Strict penalties were imposed under the Motor Vehicles Act.
During the campaign, 548 cases were registered for signal jumping, while another 6,440 cases were booked for various other traffic violations. In total, 6,988 motorists were penalized, resulting in fines amounting to ₹71,22,850. This marks the most significant enforcement action against signal jumping in Nagpur in the past two years.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Traffic, Archit Chandak, stated that the October 17 campaign was just the beginning of a series of planned operations aimed at reducing traffic rule violations. He emphasized that the Nagpur Traffic Police are committed to ongoing efforts to discipline reckless drivers and ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations.
Citizens are encouraged to follow traffic rules to avoid fines. Motorists should avoid jumping signals and driving on the wrong side. Two-wheeler riders must wear helmets and refrain from triple riding, while four-wheeler drivers should always wear seat belts. Additionally, the public is requested not to park vehicles in a way that poses a danger to others on the road.
The Nagpur Traffic Police have appealed to all residents to cooperate by following traffic rules to ensure their own safety and the safety of others on the road.
