Nagpur University, has announced its decision to introduce the history of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) into its Master of Arts (MA) curriculum. This move, however, involves the removal of content related to the history of the Communist Party, which has drawn objections from the opposition party, Congress.
Nagpur University's MA students, beginning their fourth semester after Diwali, will encounter new subjects, including the history of the BJP and the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. These additions have been approved by the Board of Practice of the History Department at the university. The changes were made as part of revisions aligned with the National Education Policy, particularly impacting the fourth semester of the MA History course. The history of the Communist Party is being replaced with the history of regional parties.
Notably, in 2019, Nagpur University had already incorporated the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) into its BA syllabus, marking a series of curriculum changes. The updated course content will also explore the BJP's growth and expansion beyond the Jana Sangh era. This will encompass topics such as the party's formation and its role in providing stable governance. Additionally, the curriculum will delve into key movements between 1980 and 2000, including the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, which held significant significance for the Indian population.
