Nagpur, India: A speeding pickup truck crashed into two motorcycles in Gittikhadan late at night on 16 February, killing a 50-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy. Several others were injured in the accident.

The victims, from the Dhanwate and Turkar families, were returning home after attending a wedding anniversary celebration. Around 11 PM, while riding near Gorewada on Katol Road, a pickup truck (MH 40 AK 3590) lost control and hit their motorcycles at high speed.

The driver, 27-year-old Navin Ramji Panse from Kalmeshwar, was allegedly drunk at the time. First, he crashed into an Activa scooter (MH 40 CN 6239) ridden by Payal Nitin Turkar (30). Then, he hit another bike (MH 40 DS 7422) carrying Gautam Dhanwate (37), his wife Trunali (30), and their daughter Pranjali (10).

All the injured were rushed to Mayo Hospital and later shifted to GMCH's Trauma Centre. Despite treatment, Prabhabai Dhanwate (50) died at 5:15 AM on 17 February, and Harsh Turkar (10) passed away at 8:20 AM.

Gittikhadan police have arrested the driver and charged him under laws related to reckless and drunk driving. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of driving under the influence.
