A nationwide strike, a Bharat Bandh, is scheduled for today, August 21, in response to a recent Supreme Court ruling on SC/ST reservations. The strike has garnered support from multiple political parties and organizations.
The People's Republican Party (PRP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) are among the prominent supporters of the Bharat Bandh. Jaideep Kawade, the National Working President of PRP, announced their decision to back the strike. The groups demand that the government overturn the Supreme Court's ruling by introducing legislation in Parliament to include SC/ST reservations in Schedule 9 of the Indian Constitution.
The BSP has also pledged its support, with State President Adv. Sunil Dongre urged citizens to participate in the bandh in a constitutional and non-violent manner. The BSP plans to submit a memorandum to the President through local officials such as the Tehsildar and Collector.
A protest is organized by the Aarakshan Bachao Sangharsh Samanvay Samiti from 11 am to 2 pm today at Samvidhan Square to support the Bharat Bandh. Several organizations, including the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Association of Engineers Nagpur (BANAI), Samta Sainik Dal, Annabhau Sathe Santha, All India SC-ST Association, Bhddhavihar Samvay Samiti, Rashtriya Charmkar Mahasangha, BAMCEF, CASTRIBE, Maharashtra Officers Forum, Bhartiya Dalit Panther, Bhartiya Baudha Mahasabha, and Bahujan Republicans' Socialist Party, are expected to participate in the protest.
