Union minister and BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Nagpur, Nitin Gadkari, unveiled his own “manifesto” on Tuesday, pledging to generate one lakh employment in the next five years if re-elected and rank the Maharashtra urban constituency among the top five cleanest and most developed cities in the world.
In his "Vachannama," or electoral manifesto, Gadkari outlined his plans for Nagpur over the following five years should he be elected from the Vidarbha city, where elections for a third term are scheduled to begin on April 19.
Three days prior to voting, the document was made public, and the 66-year-old senior BJP leader had a press conference where he discussed his ten years of experience as an MP.
25 lakh orange saplings, according to Gadkari, will be planted in households throughout the city, which is well-known for the delicious fruit.
In 2014, the Union minister ran in his first Lok Sabha election from Nagpur and won by a margin of 2,84,000 votes over Vilas Muttemwar, a seven-time Congress MP from the city.
By a margin of 2,16,000 votes, Gadkari defeated Congress contender Nana Patole in 2019 to keep the seat. The senior BJP politician is currently up against Congressman Vikas Thakre for a third consecutive term in the Lower House of Parliament.
