Nagpur, India- The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has started building a road inside the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) campus. They have deployed many workers to speed up the work. This began after VNIT agreed to temporarily open a 1.2 km road for two-wheelers. An NMC official said the project started and should be ready in about three days. They are breaking a part of VNIT’s wall near the Indian Oil petrol pump to let vehicles in. The road from there to Gate No. 3 will be for two-wheelers only, with no cars allowed.

Traffic police will put up barricades and cones at each junction. Traffic may be stopped briefly when students are moving around for safety. Vehicles can use the road from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. DCP Traffic Shashikant Satav has issued a notification about this, effective until August 15. Vehicles coming from Hingna will turn right at the Shri Gajanan Maharaj Mandir T-point, enter the VNIT campus near the Indian Oil Petrol Pump, and exit at Yashwant Nagar Square near Ambazari Police Chowki (Gate No. 3 of VNIT).

Recently, Justices Nitin Sambre and Abhay Mantri at the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court urged the state government and district administration to use their powers to address the access issue at VNIT. VNIT’s Associate Dean, Mangesh Madurwar, mentioned in court that the institute’s internal roads are unsuitable for heavy traffic.
