Nagpur, India: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is set to launch four physiotherapy centres to provide affordable treatment for disabled individuals and senior citizens aged 60 and above. These centres will be operational soon, offering a range of physiotherapy services at minimal rates.
As per the instructions of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, the physiotherapy centres will be located at Indira Gandhi Hospital, Gandhinagar; Pachpaoli Maternity Home; Sadar Diagnostic Center; and Mahal Diagnostic Center. These facilities are expected to significantly benefit the elderly and disabled citizens by offering essential services at a lower cost.
The initiative is being led by Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, and Additional Commissioner (City) Smt. Anchal Goyal Sood. They aim to make physiotherapy accessible to as many citizens as possible. Dr. Chaudhary highlighted that the centres would be a boon for the general public, while Smt. Goyal Sood urged citizens to take full advantage of the services.
Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Deepak Selokar explained that physiotherapy is a scientifically-backed healthcare service designed to help individuals improve mobility and function. This service will assist not only disabled and elderly individuals but also pregnant women and patients with serious health conditions in regaining physical strength and functionality.
Available Services:
- Manual Therapy: Techniques like joint mobilization, massage, and stretching to ease pain, stiffness, and swelling.
- Exercise Therapy: Designed to treat the root causes of physical limitations.
- TENS Therapy: Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, commonly used for pain relief.
- Other services include magnetic therapy, dry needling, acupuncture, taping, hydrotherapy, diathermy, ultrasound, and phonophoresis.
Staffing: Each center will have a physiotherapist and attendant, recruited by NMC.
Equipment: The centres will have advanced tools like shortwave diathermy, UV radiation, muscle stimulators, TENS units, traction machines, and ultrasound devices. These facilities will aid in improving muscle function, treating various health issues, and addressing neurological conditions in children.
This initiative marks a significant step toward providing affordable and accessible healthcare services for the city’s elderly and disabled population.
