Treatment for poisoning is provided to a sizable number of patients in all state-run hospitals and medical institutes. However, no hospital has a "toxicological screening" test available that can identify this kind of poison. This makes treating patients challenging for clinicians. If this screening is made available, the number of poisoning deaths could be decreased.
The state has a high rate of suicides for a variety of causes, including familial ones. In critical condition, these patients are sent to government hospitals. In the medical hospital in Nagpur, two or three individuals who have consumed different poisons using this approach arrive for treatment. This is the situation at Mayo Hospital and other hospitals around the state.
It is easier to deliver therapy correctly if the skilled physician is aware of the specific poisoning the patient has taken in a timely manner. It is therefore possible to ascertain the kind and dosage of the patient's medications.
Still, not a single other government hospital in the state, not even in Nagpur, Mumbai, has the 'Toxicological Screening' test, which identifies the precise kind of toxin the patient inhaled. Expert physicians so provide care based on both selective examination research and experience.
