Nagpur, India- To address the issue of excessive honking on Nagpur roads, the city police are starting a special campaign on Monday to raise awareness and enforce strict penalties. Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Singal highlighted the problems caused by constant horn honking, which include increased stress levels and noise pollution on the city's busy streets. He emphasized the importance of following noise level guidelines set by the Supreme Court: 45 decibels for residential areas and 55 decibels for commercial zones. Unfortunately, Nagpur's noise levels often exceed these limits due to excessive honking.

Dr Singal pointed out the need to tackle the root causes of noise pollution to create a more peaceful environment. In the first phase of the campaign, senior police officials will be stationed at key locations around the city starting Monday. They will encourage drivers to avoid unnecessary honking. "Constant horn use, especially near hospitals and schools, is a serious issue," said Dr. Singal, emphasizing the need for drivers to behave responsibly.

In the second phase of the campaign, the police will take action against drivers using unauthorized pressure horns and modified silencers, imposing penalties under Section 119/2 of the Motor Vehicle Act. Dr Singal warned that these loud horns not only disturb the peace but also pose health risks, especially to vulnerable groups like the elderly and children.
