Following an impressive opening round performance, Nishesh Basavareddy lost to Novak Djokovic 6-4 3-6 4-6 2-6. In the fourth set, the Serbian easily concluded the match to go to the next round.
The gold champion from Paris 2024 took a 2-1 lead after winning the third set 6-4. The World No. 7 leveled the match by capturing the second set 6-3, demonstrating complete domination.
After the second set, his opponent similarly experienced cramping and lost steam. Djokovic improved his game in the second set after losing the first, but the 19-year-old American ace of Indian descent fought back, and the second set was tied at 3-3 at one point.
At the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Monday, the American teenager stunned Djokovic in the opening set and won 6-4 in their first-round match.
