Nagpur, India: The strike by Aapli Bus drivers and conductors, now in its seventh day, is causing significant difficulties for daily commuters, especially working professionals, students, women, and the elderly. It was initiated by three unions at the start of Navratri.

Although one union withdrew, the BJP-backed Nagpur Mahanagar Palika Aapli Bus Kontrati Kamgar Sangh and the Vanchit Bahujan Mathadi Transport and General Kamgar Union continued the strike, rejecting a proposal for a Rs. 1,000 salary increase.

With State Assembly elections approaching, drivers and conductors are being enticed with promises of changes to the government resolution (GR). However, the power to make such amendments rests with the State government.

Any amendment would require a financial aid announcement, which seems unlikely. Meanwhile, reports suggest that a large number of drivers and conductors, feeling the strain of the strike, are showing interest in returning to work.
