A 21-MP delegation of the Opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) has embarked on a two-day visit to Manipur to assess the ground situation and address the ongoing ethnic conflict between the Kukis and the Meiteis. The conflict has been escalating in the state since May 3, resulting in the death of at least 150 people and displacing over 50,000 residents.
The delegation, consisting of representatives from at least 21 political parties, will visit both the valley and hill areas of Manipur. The objective is to gain comprehensive insights into the situation and make recommendations to the government and Parliament to facilitate the resolution of ethnic tensions.
During their visit, the Opposition delegation will also call on Manipur Governor, Anusuiya Uikey, on Sunday. The meeting aims to discuss the current situation in the state and present the findings and recommendations of the delegation.
Taking note of the Opposition's visit to Manipur, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged them to refrain from actions that could further escalate the situation in the state. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has moved a no-confidence motion against the Centre in response to the situation.
