Over 1,000 CCTV Cameras Non-Functional in Nagpur, ₹10 Crore Fund Approved

Nagpur: The city’s CCTV network, set up to improve safety, has been facing major problems, with nearly 40% of cameras not working. To fix this issue, Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has approved ₹10 crore for repairs and maintenance.
The money will be used to fix broken cameras, install new ones in important areas, and upgrade the system for better security. A report by Lokmat Times on 9th January 2025 revealed that 1,023 cameras at busy locations were not working, and the city failed to install the planned 3,841 cameras in 2023-24.
The Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL), which runs the project, has struggled to meet targets since 2019-20. Many cameras stopped working due to damage from ongoing road and flyover construction, which affected the network.
To prevent future issues, NSSCDCL will hire a private agency to handle maintenance and repairs. Officials hope this funding will help improve the city’s CCTV system and make Nagpur safer.
