Nearly a decade post the groundbreaking ceremony, the Pardi flyover is on the verge of completion, marking a significant milestone. Initiated with the bhoomipujan conducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2014, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been overseeing the project, initially slated for a three-year timeline.
Despite the initial projections, the issuance of the work order was delayed until April 2016. Subsequent hurdles, including land acquisition issues and the disruptive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, further extended the construction timeline. Notably, a setback occurred in October 2021 when a section of the flyover collapsed, causing additional delays.
As of now, three arms of the flyover leading to Old Bhandara Road, Pardi, and Kalamna Market have been opened to traffic since September 2023. The remaining two arms, directing towards Manewada and Central Avenue, are anticipated to be operational by the end of March this year.
Originally budgeted at over 460 crore, the project has incurred expenses exceeding 2665 crore thus far. Described as a "spaghetti flyover," the Pardi flyover stands as an architectural marvel in the city. However, its construction journey has been marred by several mishaps, making travel on the road below a challenging experience.
Upon completion, the Pardi flyover is poised to alleviate traffic congestion on the roads beneath, providing direct connectivity to various arterial roads and highways. This development is expected to enhance overall transportation efficiency in the region.
