Nagpur, India: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) marked India’s Independence Day by renewing its promise to make life better for the people of Nagpur. During a flag hoisting ceremony at the NMC headquarters, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary highlighted the ongoing efforts to improve public services and infrastructure in the city.
Dr. Chaudhary emphasized that the NMC is dedicated to serving the citizens of Nagpur by working in various areas like social services, education, and health. He assured that the NMC, along with Central and State Government schemes, is committed to making life easier for everyone.
The ceremony began with Dr. Chaudhary inspecting a parade by the NMC’s fire brigade personnel, where he accepted a salute. Several key officials, including Additional Commissioners Mrs. Anchal Goyal and Mr. Ajay Charthankar, Chief Engineer Mrs. Leena Upadhye, and Deputy Commissioners, were present at the event.
In his speech, Dr. Chaudhary expressed confidence in India’s growing economy, stating that the country is now the world’s fifth-largest economy and is on track to becoming a $5 trillion economy. He mentioned that Nagpur city will play an important role in this growth. He also talked about the NMC’s ongoing projects, such as sewage treatment plants, the AMRUT-2 scheme, electric buses, and scholarships for girls in NMC schools. He highlighted important initiatives like the 'Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana,' 'Vayoshree Yojana,' and 'Mukhyamantri Yuva Kaushal Vikas Yojana,' which aim to provide essential services to the public. He noted that 263 trainees have already been appointed under the Mukhyamantri Yuva Kaushal Vikas Yojana, with more appointments expected soon.
As part of the event, a tree planting drive was also conducted under the National Clean Air Programme’s 'Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam' campaign, where Dr. Chaudhary and other dignitaries planted trees.
The Independence Day celebrations concluded with a 'Tiranga Concert' at the NMC headquarters as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. NMC employees, along with V5 Entertainment Studio, performed patriotic songs like 'Dekho Veer Jawano' to mark the occasion.
