Nagpur, India- A Deputy Controller of the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO), Nishant Mridul (44), jumped from the terrace of a seven-story office building at the CGO Complex in Seminary Hills, Nagpur, on Monday. Mridul works in the section for approving specialized equipment used in the petroleum sector and is currently in critical condition at a private hospital. Doctors have stated that while he is not brain dead, his condition remains precarious.

Mridul suffered multiple injuries, including damage to the pelvis, femur bone, and head. He also sustained a diffuse axonal injury in the brain, affecting the nerves. Medical personnel have struggled to stabilize his blood pressure, requiring multiple blood transfusions.

The police have not yet registered a case and are waiting for Mridul to regain consciousness for questioning. Investigators have seized Mridul's mobile phone, which was found on the terrace parapet wall. Witnesses at the CGO Complex suggested that Mridul may have become entangled in a wire before hitting the ground, potentially reducing the severity of the fall. The incident caused wires spanning the fifth floor to snap.

A senior officer at Gittikhadan Police Station stated, "Since he is alive, we are waiting for him to regain consciousness and will question him once he can communicate."

In a related context, earlier this year, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the residence of another PESO official in Nagpur, uncovering an alleged bribery case. The CBI seized unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 2.22 crore, including Rs 5.86 lakh from the residence of an official. The raid led to the arrest of Ashok Kumar Dalela and Vivek Kumar, Deputy Chief Controllers of Explosives at PESO, along with Priyadarshan Dinkar Deshpande and Devi Singh Kachhawaha, the director of Super Shivshakti Chemical in Rajasthan.
