Nagpur, India- The recent heavy rains in Nagpur have brought to light glaring deficiencies in the sewage line project undertaken by contractors for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). One of the prominent examples is the sewage line in Boriyapura, where a newly installed slab collapsed under the strain of Monday evening's downpour. This incident has resulted in significant water overflow onto the streets, causing inconvenience and posing health hazards to local residents.

Just two months ago, the contractor had completed the installation of a new slab extending from Gardline Under Bridge to Boriyapura Chowk. However, the recent heavy rains exposed the hasty and inadequate nature of the work. Residents of the area have alleged that the contractor neglected essential pre-installation tasks such as proper cleaning of the sewage system. Instead, they claim that the slab was laid hastily, with the work abruptly halted thereafter.

Social worker Zulfikar Ahmed Shanu took notice of the issue and promptly reported it to the zone officer. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the work was indeed incomplete. Furthermore, it was revealed that additional sewage pipes still need to be installed to ensure the proper functioning of the system.

Despite the evident shortcomings and the collapse of the newly installed slab within such a short span, officials have maintained a conspicuous silence on the matter. This has fueled frustration among residents, who are demanding accountability from both the contractor responsible for the faulty work and the officials who awarded the contract.

The incident has sparked calls for a thorough investigation into the quality of work performed by the contractors under NMC's supervision. Residents are insistent that those responsible for overseeing the project must be held accountable for the inadequate infrastructure that has now inconvenienced the community and compromised public health.
