Bhandara, India: In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage, the principal of the Government Nursing Training College was assaulted by parents of students after accusations emerged that he had demanded sexual favours from female students in exchange for increasing their exam marks.

The Government ANM and GNM Training College, which operates under the District Government Hospital, is home to around 200 female students. The controversy began after five students who had failed last year reappeared for their re-examination on November 5, 6, and 8.

According to reports, Principal Kiran Murkut allegedly sent messages to two female students asking about their exam performance. When the students expressed concerns about their results, Murkut reportedly assured them that he could help raise their marks. However, the principal is said to have demanded sexual favours in return for this assistance.

Although Murkut reportedly deleted the messages shortly afterward, one of the students had taken a screenshot of the conversation. The incident remained undisclosed until one of the students confided in her parents on Thursday.

Upon learning of the allegations, the parents of the two students, along with social workers and concerned individuals, gathered at the college. An argument between the parents and the principal quickly escalated into a physical altercation, with a scuffle breaking out in front of Civil Surgeon Dr. Deepchand Soyyam and other officials who were present at the scene.

As tensions mounted, local police arrived and, recognizing the seriousness of the situation, sealed the classroom and detained Principal Murkut for questioning. Authorities are now investigating the allegations.

The incident has also raised serious concerns regarding the safety of students, as the college campus lacks CCTV surveillance, which has prompted questions about the overall security at the institution. Additionally, the girls' hostel, situated approximately one kilometre from the college, adds to the concerns regarding the safety of female students.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided as the situation unfolds.
