Prostitution Racket: Accused Woman Caught in Nagpur After 3 Years on the Run

Nagpur Crime Branch arrests a woman involved in a prostitution racket after 3 years on the run. She was wanted for trafficking a minor in a 2021 case.

Nagpur, India: The Social Security Branch (SSB) of the Nagpur Crime Branch arrested a woman who had been on the run for over three years for her role in a prostitution racket. The accused, Shilpa Suresh Havre (22), was caught on Thursday, November 28, during a police operation in the Ambazari area.The incident dates back to July 2021, when Shilpa and another woman, Munni Bai Maksooq Pathan (45), were accused of forcing a minor girl into prostitution by offering her money. They used Munni Bai’s house to carry out the illegal activities and collected money from customers.

A case was filed by Sub-Inspector Rekha Sankpal at Ajni Police Station under charges like human trafficking, selling minors, and other serious offenses under the IPC, POCSO Act, and PITA Act. While Munni Bai was arrested in 2021 and sentenced, Shilpa managed to escape.

Acting on a tip, the police set up a trap in Ambazari and arrested Shilpa. She confessed to her role during questioning and has been handed over to Ajni Police for further legal action.The operation was led by Police Sub-Inspector Shivaji Nannaware, with officers Sheshrao Raut, Ashwin Mange, Samir Sheikh, Kunal Masram, Anup Yadav, and Punam Shende.

This arrest is a big step in ensuring justice for the victim and cracking down on such crimes in the city.
