At the Malaysia Masters in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, PV Sindhu defeated a tenacious Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand 13-21, 21-16, 21-12 in an 88-minute comeback victory that propelled her to her first World Tour final in 2024. On Sunday, she will compete against Wang Zhi Yi of China in the final.

Sindhu is well-acquainted with Ongbamrungphan, as the two have faced off eighteen times in the past, with the Indian emerging victorious seventeen times. The only time Sindhu has lost to Busanan, the current world No. 20, was at the Hong Kong Open in 2019.

However, Sindhu was facing the risk of losing for the second match after a sluggish start. But in the middle of Game 2, she bounced back, increasing the thrilling head-to-head record to 18-1.

The World No. 15 shuttler defeated Han Yue, ranked sixth, in a 55-minute match on Friday in the quarterfinals to get revenge on her for losing to the Chinese in their previous meeting at the Asia badminton Championships in Ningbo last month. Her score was 21-13 14-21 21-12.

"I made sure I was in the game and didn't give up easy points from the very first rally. I knew I was going to win and I was in control. Since our last battle ended in a loss, I'm satisfied with my performance. After the game against Yue, Sindhu spoke to BWF, "It's unfortunate because I was leading, but this is like a sweet revenge."
