Raising Voices Against Liquor: Muktipath’s Torch Rally in Gadchiroli
Women from Muktipath in Kurkheda organized a rally against illegal liquor sales, warning violators of fines and legal action for non-compliance.

Vidarbha, Gadchiroli, India: Women from the Muktipath organization in Palapundi and Charvidand, located in Kurkheda taluka, organized a ‘Mashal morcha’ (torch rally) and visited local liquor sellers, urging them to cease their illegal operations. They issued a warning that violators would face a fine of Rs 50,000 and potential legal action for selling liquor in violation of regulations.
A meeting of women from Charvidand, Palapundi, and Yedsakuhi took place in Charvidand, attended by Gram Panchayat officials, the Police Patil, members of the dispute-free village committee, and chaired by Motiram Madavi. During the meeting, a committee was formed to establish liquor-free villages.
Following the decision to prohibit the illegal sale of liquor, it was unanimously agreed to impose a fine of Rs 50,000 on violators. The Police Patil, members of the dispute-free village committee, and officials from the Gram Panchayat of the three villages expressed their full support for this decision.
The Muktipath-Shaktipath Samiti was established in Palapundi and Charvidand, with significant participation from women. During this event, the Muktipath taluka team outlined the committee’s objectives and activities and proposed strategies to combat the illegal sale of liquor in their villages.
In line with the decision made during the meeting, the women of Charvidand and Palapundi organized a rally against alcohol and visited the homes of local liquor sellers. They urged the sellers to cease their illegal operations immediately and warned that failure to comply would result in action in accordance with the meeting’s resolution.
The meeting included Sarpanch Bhopal Kumbare, Dy. Sarpanch Keshikala Gortekar, Shamrao Kumbhare, Gram Sewika Rasika Sidam, Police Patil Namdev Madavi, Revata Kumre, Police Patil Chetna Gorthekar, Ramabai Kumre, Kaushalya Bavane, Rukhmai Jade, Kaushalya Usendi, Gram Panchayat Member Tulavi, Pragya Sahare, and Madhuri Kokode, along with Taluka in-charge Sharda Meshram and Jeevan Dahikar from Muktipath.
