Nagpur, India - Nagpurians were feeling the heat on Tuesday as the city recorded its highest maximum temperature of the season, hitting a scorching 41.2 degrees Celsius. With the mercury rising, the streets became deserted during the afternoon as most people chose to stay indoors to escape the intense heat.
Despite the soaring temperatures, traffic police remained on duty, ensuring smooth traffic flow across the city. Over the past few days, cloudy weather had provided some relief, but Tuesday saw clear skies and dry conditions, leading to the peak temperature of the season so far.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the high temperatures are expected to persist in the coming days due to the clear sky and dry weather. This means that residents can anticipate more heatwaves and warm nights, adding to the discomfort.
In addition to Nagpur, other parts of Vidarbha also experienced exceptionally high temperatures. Bramhapuri recorded the highest maximum temperature in the region at 42.3 degrees Celsius, followed by several other cities surpassing the 41-degree mark.
Responding to the extreme conditions, Nagpur Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari has been holding regular meetings to review the city's heat action plan. Measures have been put in place to ensure public gardens remain open during the afternoon, and hospitals are adequately equipped to handle cases of heatstroke.
To provide relief to animals, Maharajbagh Zoo has installed cooling systems in all animal enclosures, prioritizing their comfort during the hot summer months.
As temperatures continue to rise, Nagpur residents are urged to take necessary precautions to stay safe and hydrated during the ongoing heatwave.
