Nagpur, India: A case of fraud has been filed against Mrs. Usha M. Meshram, a 61-year-old retired postal employee, by the Tehsil Police Station in Nagpur. The complaint alleges that Meshram deceived several individuals by promising to open Senior Citizen Saving Scheme accounts at the post office where she previously worked.
Between April 22, 2024, and May 10, 2024, Meshram allegedly collected a total of ₹4,40,000 from three people: Babybai, Sanjeshwari Rahul Kankariya, and Bharti Kumbhare. She assured them that their money would be used to open the accounts but failed to do so. Instead, Meshram reportedly used the funds for her personal benefit.
The fraud was uncovered after Subhashchand Hari Singh, 52, a complainant from the Postmaster General’s office, reported the incident to the police. The police have charged Meshram with Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 419 (cheating by impersonation), and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code. An investigation is ongoing.
