Nagpur, India: The long-awaited renovation of the Ganeshpeth bus stand is near completion, with officials expecting the major concretization project to wrap up by mid-November. The upgrade covers an area of around 10,300 square meters, with approximately 5,500 square meters undergoing substantial improvements. The work commenced in mid-September by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).

The revamp includes the bus stand’s 20 platforms, with the first phase focusing on concreting 10 platforms near the exit gate—completed earlier in the project. The remaining 10 platforms are slated for completion within the next 2 weeks. According to an MIDC official, 4,100 square meters of the targeted 5,500 square meters have already been completed. “We’ve covered the most critical sections, with only about 25 per cent of the work left to finish,” the official said.

“We stopped work two days before Diwali and will resume next Monday,” the official added. Once work recommences, the remaining detailing and final touches are expected to be completed within a week.

For now, all platforms, including the newly revamped sections, are operational to accommodate the increased festive traffic. During Diwali, the MSRTC introduced 55 special buses to manage the large number of travellers departing from the city. This enhanced service, available until November 18, highlights the pressing need for expanded space at the bus terminus during peak times.

In addition to Ganeshpeth, renovation projects are underway at five other bus stands across the Nagpur district—Morbha, Butibori, Saoner, Katol, and Umred—with a combined budget allocation of ₹12.98 crore.
