RTMNU Requests 100-Room Sports Hostel; Ministry of Sports Secretary Seeks Detailed Proposal

Sujata Dani Chaturvedi (IAS), the Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Government of India, visited Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University on Thursday.
During the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Subhash Chaudhary, Pro-VC Dr. Sanjay Dudhe, Registrar Dr. Raju Hiwse, Director of Sports and Physical Education Department Dr. Sharad Suryawanshi, former director Dr. Dhananjay Welukar, and Sports and Physical Education Board Member Vijay Munishwar were present.
The VC highlighted the issue of inadequate accommodation for players during national and international competitions. He expressed the need for a sports hostel at the university. Responding to this, the sports secretary instructed them to provide a detailed proposal on the matter.
Dr. Chaudhary shared that a synthetic track has been established, fostering the development of both national and international players in Nagpur. He further mentioned plans for constructing an indoor sports complex using funds from the Maharashtra government. The university aims to offer top-notch sports facilities to students from urban and rural areas.
Dr. Chaudhary emphasized the university's commitment to providing exceptional sports facilities to students across the four districts under its purview. The university has an objective of nurturing 100 future athletes—25 from each district. The Vice-Chancellor also noted that financially disadvantaged students receive Rs 5,000 per month. Dr. Sharad Suryawanshi and Dr. Dhananjay Welukar elaborated on various sports initiatives undertaken by the university.
The discussion highlighted the presence of four Khelo India centres within the university, catering to school dropouts who are selected for sports. Suggestions were made to establish district-wise Khelo India centres to enhance athlete production. Additionally, concerns about coaching were raised during the discussion. Following the meeting, Sujata Dani Chaturvedi requested the university to provide a comprehensive proposal on the outlined matters.
