The chief food regulator of India, FSSAI, recently advised retailers and operators of food businesses not to use the outlawed substance "calcium carbide" to ripen fruits. The group recommended state and territory Food Safety Departments to maintain their vigilance and take decisive action against anyone who engage in these illegal activities.
