Nagpur, India: A software engineer and his brother-in-law were allegedly cheated of ₹41.31 lakh by three individuals who had promised to sell them plots in Nagpur. The Kapil Nagar police have registered a case against the accused, identified as Sanjay Dapodkar, 48, Omkar Anjikar, and Prafull Namdev Rode, 32.
The complainant, Amit Chavan, 38, a project manager at a software firm and a resident of Ramainagar, Nari Road, stated that the fraud took place between 2020 and 2021.
Chavan was introduced to Omkar Anjikar of Kapurda Real Estate in 2020 through an acquaintance. Anjikar informed him about Jay Gajanan Real Estate, which claimed to have plots available in Mouza Wanjara. After visiting the site with his brother-in-law, Chavan decided to buy two plots.
Between January 2021 and mid-2023, Chavan and his brother-in-law paid ₹41.31 lakh to Jay Gajanan Real Estate. However, when Rode later demanded an additional ₹9 lakh, Chavan refused.
When they asked for a refund, the accused allegedly abused and threatened them. Chavan later found out that the plots were actually owned by Sanjay Dapodkar, not Rode or Anjikar, and that all payments had been transferred to Dapodkar’s account.
The police are investigating the matter.
