On Day 2 of the CIVIL-20 India 2023 Inception Summit in Nagpur, the plenary session's subject was "Civil Society Organizations and the Advancement of Human Values." The following Working Groups of Civil-20 India 2023 were discussed during the session: Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam - World is One Family; Diversity, Inclusion, Mutual Respect, and Human Rights as Human Value; Sewa - Sense of Service, Charity, and Volunteerism.
Shyam Parande, Global Coordinator for Sewa International, presided over the meeting. According to Shyam Parande, participants in this conference should spread the advice of Gautam Buddha to "be the light yourself" (Appo Deep Bhava). The power of civil society, he continued, is in morality and the human spirit. India's values have a lengthy history, and these Indian principles are consistent with global values.
Speakers at this session included Dr Shashi Bala, President of the International Council of Cultural Studies, India, and Naseema Hurzuk, President of the Saahas Disability Research and Care Foundation, Kolhapur. Arsha Vidya Mandir, Swami Parmatmanada, and Owain James, 100 Million Campaign's global director.
The individual Working Group coordinators also spoke throughout the session. They were Dr Vikrant Tomar, Convener of United Consciousness Global; Dr Joram Begi, Chairman of the Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture (VKIC), Guwahati; and Durganand Jha, Executive Chairman at the Centre for Policy Analysis. Santosh Gupta was the CEO of the Indian Social Responsibility Network (ISRN).
Everything is a gift to us, according to Swami Parmatmanada, and we are not the creators of anything. Everything is a gift, so we should honour the giver. He emphasised the need of treating others with respect and acting in a way that does not infringe on their rights.
According to Santosh Gupta, when we perform acts of service, we have a deep-seated desire to contribute to a good cause. In the word Sev. Parmodharma is a blend of devotion and spirituality. Sewa is superior to philanthropy and volunteering (for a limited period) (Charity). He also discussed how Sewa was interpreted in the world's major religions.
Owain James discussed the global inequities that exist and underlined in particular how Sub-Saharan Africa has experienced uneven development. Since 2015, more Sub-Saharan Africans are now surviving on less than $2.15 a day. In Sub-Saharan Africa, the number of children engaged in child labour and those not attending school was also rising. He claimed that despite having some of the richest natural resources, Africa remained poor as a result of the shifting of revenues to other countries. He demanded justice for the children of Africa.
According to Vikrant Tomar, the theme of the G20 was Vasudhaiva Kutumbkam, which indicated that every living thing on the globe was a vital part of one family. We are identical people, but our levels of consciousness differ. He claimed that we had lost sight of the idea of unity. The most intellectual and most unhappy species in the world was the human race. This resulted from having few ideas. Stated that we have the option of either having one existence or none at all.
Speaking on Sewa (Service) and Sewa Bhav, Naseema Hurzuk (Spirit of Service). Sewa comes in two flavours: financial sewa and social sewa. Although everyone has a basic sense of service, the spirit of service to others is aroused when personal misfortune strikes. When we keep the pledge of service without having any expectations, she added, we experience the joy of service. "The C20 logo is #You are the Light," she said, "which signifies that a civilization runs on its own strength and we create our own day." She said that the C20 and G20 must concentrate on assisting individuals who are experiencing hardship in their lives.
According to Dr Shashi Bala, the G20 and C20 place a high value on diversity, inclusivity, and respect for one another. According to her, achieving happiness should not be limited to gaining more financial and political clout, but rather, there should be an emphasis on all-around growth that gives the voiceless and marginalised a platform. Vasudhaiva Kutumbkam demanded inclusion while embracing variety. The maxim "You are the light" encourages knowledge inclusion.
Diversity, according to Dr Joram Begi, is an inevitable and fundamental law of nature. All are included because of how interdependent, intertwined, and connected the universe is. Embracing the values of inclusiveness, diversity, and respect for one another was the most effective way to resolve disputes. Next, he explained how the ancient Indian philosophy holds that "One manifests in all."
The UNO should review the idea of human rights, according to Durganand Jha. There should be a regional statement of human rights in addition to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He asserted that using human rights as a weapon of war against any nation is wrong.
