The Indian government and sports ministry have approved the Indian team's participation in the forthcoming World Championships in Albania, marking a significant development in the dispute inside the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).
The sports ministry assumed responsibility in the event of resistance, however, the Indian contingent had earlier withdrawn from the World Championships out of concern that they would be charged with contempt of court.
This comes after a group of twelve wrestlers showed up at the home of Mansukh Mandaviya, the minister of youth affairs and sports, in New Delhi to try to win his support for the cause.
When the wrestlers first tried to attend the court, they were informed that their petition could not be heard that day. They were given the chance to have an evening meeting with the minister.
This contingent will continue to represent the WFI in Albania despite its suspension by the sports ministry because of Mandaviya's involvement. In February of this year, the WFI received approval to participate from the UWW, which oversees international wrestling.
