Nagpur, India - In a recent operation by Kamptee Police on the Kamptee-Kalamna road, three individuals, including a journalist, were arrested for allegedly demanding a ransom of five lakh rupees from a builder in Nagpur. The arrested individuals, identified as Veerkumar Dinsingh, Sheikh Habib Sheikh Rahmatullah, and Syed Rizwan Haider, purportedly represented the YouTube channel New Awaaz News.
The trio stands accused of demanding the ransom from Sachin Gopal Gupta, the owner of Kesar Land Builders, over a purported land deal on Pandan road in Kanhan city. Feeling threatened, Gupta filed a complaint with the Kamptee (New) Police Station on May 17.
Responding to the complaint, the police set up a trap over three days as the demand for money escalated. On Thursday afternoon, the suspects arrived at the Marartoli area, where they accepted five lakh rupees from Gupta. At that moment, the police intervened, detaining and subsequently arresting all three individuals.
The Kamptee Police have filed a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 384 (extortion), 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention). Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
