Nagpur, India - In a heart-wrenching incident at Dighori toll post, an engineering student, Bhushan Lanjewar, has been granted bail by the District Court. The accident, which occurred late at night, claimed the lives of three individuals, including a young child, and left six others injured. The victims, members of the Badadiya family from Rajasthan, were known locally for their street-side business of selling soft toys.
Allegedly driving under the influence, Lanjewar's Hyundai Verna collided with the sleeping family members, leading to immediate fatalities for Kantibai Badadiya (42), Sitaram Badadiya (30), and the young girl, who later succumbed to her injuries. The incident has sparked legal action under multiple sections of the IPC and the Motor Vehicle Act against Lanjewar and his five companions.
Advocate Kamal Satuja, representing Lanjewar, argued that a mechanical failure—a burst tire—contributed to the tragedy, deflecting some blame away from alcohol consumption.
Despite the severity of the charges, the District Court's decision to grant bail has stirred local discussions and raised questions about road safety and the consequences of reckless driving.
