A distressing incident occurred in Kanhan as a man, Rahul Chintaman Chafale (33), ignited himself and his wife, Akashana (29), following a heated argument. Tragically, Rahul succumbed to his burn injuries on Saturday, while his wife Akashana is fighting for her life in critical condition.The incident took place against the backdrop of ongoing marital discord between the couple. Akashana had opted to live separately with their children in the Shiv Nagar area eight years ago to escape frequent quarrels with her husband. Despite their separation, Rahul continued to visit Akashana's rented accommodation, subjecting her to verbal abuse and pressure to reconcile.Tensions reached a boiling point on Friday around 7:30 pm when an intoxicated Rahul demanded Akashana to return home. Refusing to comply, Akashana faced Rahul's volatile temper. In a fit of rage, Rahul retrieved a bottle of petrol, dousing both Akashana and himself before igniting the fuel with a lighter. The flames quickly engulfed the couple, leaving them with severe burns.Akashana's children and her sister, who were present at the scene, acted swiftly to douse the flames with water before rushing them to a hospital. Unfortunately, Rahul's injuries proved fatal, with reports indicating burns covering 80% of his body.Meanwhile, Akashana remains in critical condition, bravely battling against the odds for her life. Kanhan Police have registered a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in connection with the tragic incident.
